It is a great pleasure to inform you that the Indonesian Rubber Research Institute (IRRI) in collaboration with the International Rubber Research Development Board (IRRDB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will organize The International Rubber Conference (IRC) 2024, from 19 to 21 November 2024 at Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
IRC 2024 has a theme “Embracing CircularThinking: “NewParadigm for Sustainable Natural Rubber Industry” and will discuss the following topics:
- Good Agricultural Practices
- Plant Protection and Breeding
- Processing Technology Including Rubber Modification
- Rubber Product Manufacturing for Value Addition
- Rubber Wood Utilization
- Environmental and Climate Change Challenges
- Socio Economic Issues
The conference and exhibition provide opportunities for delegates to share and discuss current updates on research products and technologies in the rubber industry. This event is expected to be attended by more than 200 participants from natural rubber-producing countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Cote d’Ivoire, China, India, Cambodia, Myanmar, Japan, France, and others.
The conference will also include presentations on the progress of the research activities being carried out in collaboration with RIKEN as a part of the JICA-SATREPS project on “Project for Development of Complex Technologies for Prevention and Control of Rubber Tree Leaf Fall Diseases”.

The world natural rubber industry is at a crossroad. There are challenges, but there are also opportunities. Despite the strong global demand, the low prices have forced countries to rethink their investment in NR. Labor shortage is an added concern in some producer countries. As the world embraces NetZero, with the preference for renewable materials growing, we see opportunities for a pick-up in world NR demand. That should translate into positive pricing. A major issue for the industry is, how can we mitigate the challenges and capture the new opportunities that lie before us? Clearly, we need to reimagine the way forward to make the NR industry more sustainable and prosperous. There is still much hope for the NR industry.
We are delighted to invite you to join our IRC 2024 to deliberate on the options. We believe the much talked about circular business approach can be a potential winner.
