EXPLORING YOGYAKARTA

Indonesia is one of the world’s leading producers of natural rubber which contribute significantly to the global market. The rubber plantations predominantly located in Sumatra and Kalimantan, and some areas located in Java including Central Java and Yogyakarta.

Yogyakarta is a captivating destination rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty. It has a famous palace for Sultan Yogyakarta. The palace was established by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I in 1755. Since 1998, Yogyakarta has been led by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

Yogyakarta, known as the heart of Javanese culture, boasts historic landmarks like the majestic Borobudur (the biggest Buddhist temple) and Prambanan (the biggest Hindu temple). Prambanan temple has traditional dance performance called Sendratari Ramayana and has been regularly staged since 1961.

In field trip session, we will visit PT Perkebunan Nusantara 1 Regional 3 (the government owned rubber plantation), Getas, Central Java. This plantation has also Kampoeng Kopi Banaran which is one of the agro tourism sites in Central Java. After that, we will also visit the Ketep Pass Volcano Museum in Central Java. The museum tells the story of merapi, the most active volcano in the world. In this place, participants will have the opportunity to see the volcano clearly at a safe distance.
